The sable coloration in dogs is mostly a result of the agouti gene, and in pugs this is not at all a common coat color. In fact sable pugs have a gray, tan, silver, or yellow body with black-tipped hairs. The sable pattern covers its whole body though the distribution may not be even throughout. The area around the chest might appear lighter, while the back seems deeper. The sable pugs would retain the black mask around their muzzle and eyes, and even have black ears.
