Pugs do not rise to the stature of a service dog since they lack some of the requirements to be one, like a high intelligence level and a strong drive to work. However, they make for great therapy dogs primarily because of their affectionate, loyal, and kind-hearted nature.
They are known to be of great emotional support to those suffering from depression or any kind or physical or mental distress. Their loving, and comforting disposition, alongside increased patience make them great for homes with autistic kids who often have an unpredictable mood. Moreover unlike working breeds, they don’t get yappy every now and then, and lack the ability of delivering a strong bite. Hence even if they are treated boisterously or inappropriately at times, they would not react.
