Pugs one of the most ancient breeds, date back to as early 400 B.C. According to most historians, these dogs have their roots in China bred as companions for the royal families.
The Lo-sze that the Chinese bred along with two other breeds namely the Pekingese and the Lion Dog are the forefathers of the present day Pug.
From China their popularity spread elsewhere to other parts of Asia particularly Tibet and finally to Europe in the 16th century. They became The House of Orange’s (in Netherland) official dog in 1572.
They reached the United States in the 19th century, getting recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1885.
